Monday morning we got up at 4:30 am and drove Paul to the airport.  Paul flew all day and got to Osaka, Japan Monday at 11:30 pm PST/Tuesday 4:30 PM local time.  His boss, Hiro, picked him up from the airport and took him out to dinner, they got Shabu Shabu.

On Wednesday, Hiro picked Paul and the chemical engineer he was with up first thing in the morning and they drove from Osaka to Kyoto. They first saw a Shinto religious site called the Fushimi Inari Shrine. This is a place that has thousands of gateways that represent prayers for prosperity that different individuals and companies have purchased to be erected. They are supposed to help with the prosperity of your business. After this they went to this market street that overlooked a famous pagoda in Kyoto. There we tried mochi on a stick (which isn’t ice-cream in Japan nor is it sweet. It’s like a ball of rice paste with some sticky soy sauce on it). There were lots of cool shops and a small Studio Ghibli museum.  They had lunch at a Japanese-Italian restaurant that had really good pasta and Steak. Afterward Hiro took them to a bamboo forest and large botanical garden area. Unfortunately the garden was mostly dead because it's winter there. After that he took them to Kinkaku-Ji which is a large golden coated temple in the middle of a Japanese forest. To finish the day they went back Osaka and met up with other members of the Cathode presentation team to go out to dinner. They got real Japanese Raman which Paul said was very good.

Thursday Paul visited one of their Japanese clients location in Osaka and had a day of meetings and presentations. He said it went very well and afterward they were taken to a skyrise restaurant in Osaka and had a very fancy dinner.

Friday Paul and the engineering team travelled to Gifu and met at another companies location and toured their facility.  Saturday he had breakfast and hung out with the senior engineers before they headed to the airport.  He left Japan at 6 pm local time and Mary and I picked him up at 3:15 pm PST on the same day. Haha so he went back in time on his way home.

When Mary is in the bath she likes to rub the bubbles on my arm and pretend it is lotion.  She kept saying words that sounded like "muffin" and "actually".  Whenever I give her something she always says, really sweetly, "Thanks, Mom!"  She loved flying in her ladybug wings and she also loved putting different costume headbands on me throughout the afternoon/evening.  I would push her hair out of her eyes when I put the headbands on her, so she did that for me toward the end, she is so sweet.  Wednesday we had the Gochenour's over for a playdate.  It was a lot of fun to have them over and the girls played well together with only a few moments of finding it hard to share for each girl.

Happy birthday to Samuel on Thursday!  Mary and I went to the exercise class that morning.  We went to ShaLay's house after and Mary got to play with Lydia and EverLee while ShaLay went to a doctor's appointment.  Mary was climbing into a pillow cupboard at ShaLay's house and said "Here I come!"  Then when I was cleaning up and rolled the unicorn toy toward the living room, Mary said, "I'll get it!"  Mary loved getting snuggles at bedtime and fell asleep holding my hand.

Saturday we taught Paula with the sister missionaries and Mary got to play with Penny.  They fed Mary lunch then we got home and Paul said he got on an earlier flight home from San Francisco.  Mary fell asleep in the car as we drove to the airport.  We got some food and came home and put a movie on.  Paul almost immediately fell asleep on the couch (after being awake for 28 hours straight).  Mary put on ladybug wings and went over to Paul and said, “Daddy! Daddy! Look! I’m a ladybug! Daddy! Daddy! Wake up!”
