January 20-26, 2025

Monday was MLK day and Paul only had to work for a couple of hours. We had a yummy breakfast then he left. I got the dishes and laundry started before getting Katie down for a nap and exercised. Mary watched a movie then played while I finished cleaning. I tried putting Katie down for a nap in the afternoon but it didn't take. Paul got home and we went on a family walk to Green Valley Park. Katie didn't really sleep on the walk like I hoped she would have but she slept when we got home. We had dinner, deep cleaned for an hour then I taught violin. Lizzy didn't quite have Lightly Row down but I still got her started on Song of the Wind. Christa's parents are in town for Joy's birthday and Christa wanted to spend more time with them so Joe came to the lesson with Lizzy. He is so different from Christa, He's quiet and seems awkward while Christa is the easiest person to get along with that I have ever met. Paul and I got the girls to bed. Mary woke up around 3:30 am screaming from a nightmare, then snuck into our room at 4 am and I heard her hiding under our bed. She got up at 4:30 and was asking for gloves. Luckily after that she stayed asleep. Katie has been practicing using her voice to talk and sing to us this week. I love to hear her coo and talk and make noise.
We slept in the next morning, gratefully. We had a relaxed morning playing with Mary's magnet toys then I put a movie on for Mary while I put Katie down for a nap and exercised. Katie napped well, so I was able to clean up a bit and do the laundry. I put Katie in the baby carrier once she was up and finished cleaning. Mary played outside. I had cereal for dinner because Paul's coworker, Shayne, brought Paul lunch on Friday, ox-tail (a Jamaican dish), and he sent the dish home with Paul to have him return the favor. I made cowboy casserole and made my portion in Shayne's Tupperware for Paul to take with him to work the next day. Mary lost a toy in the couch and I dug it out from under the cushion, she exclaimed, "Wow! You actually did it!"
Wednesday I bathed Katie in the morning before her nap. She slept well and I put her in the baby carrier while I cleaned. I made salmon for dinner and put Katie down before eating it. I went outside with Mary while Katie slept. I was eating my salmon and went to go inside to put my dishes in the sink to discover that the backdoor was locked. I should have been careful to make sure it wasn't locked before closing it because Mary had tried to lock me outside earlier that day but I didn't pay attention. I was feeling good about playing with Mary outside and being a good parent and then devolving into panic as I realized that every door to the house was locked and Katie was in there alone (luckily she was asleep the whole time, but still). I try every door and even though I know the keypad on the front door needs the batteries replaced I still try the code to no avail. I tell Mary to stay in the backyard and I run over to the house on the corner that was previously used as an office for DR Horton employees but no one was there. I ran back to Mary and honestly was so panicked at this point, I had no idea what to do. I didn't have my phone, keys, nothing. Then I started checking the windows. I started with Mary's bedroom for some reason and got the screen off to find that her window was locked. Then I tried the living room window, I got the screen off and thank goodness the window was unlocked. I opened it and dragged some of our loggia furniture over and climbed through the window and unlocked the back door. It was such a blessing. It hadn't really taken that much time but it was so crazy and I almost cried with panic. I honestly do not know what I would have done if the window had been locked.
I finished cleaning the kitchen while Katie was still sleeping then fed her before showering and taking the girls to the library. It was late in the afternoon but we all needed to get out of the house. I had called Paul and told him of the disaster and he came home early to surprise me just to find the house empty. He thought we went to the park but we weren't there when he walked over. Then he texted me and I told him we were at the library. We got home around 5:30 pm (He usually doesn't get home until after 6 pm) and he was doing his coding and ec's. I got Katie to bed then went to the church for a Relief Society activity. Lindsay Durocher taught a REFIT class to our wards RS sisters and the young women. April Kimball and ShaLay Gochenour both came as well, which was fun. I was not in a good head space from being home so much and not seeing friends, it was a blessing to get together with adults and not have the mental strain of motherhood. Of course I also had the guilt that I'm sure Mary wants to get out of the house and be with friends more too. I try to get her out of the house and plan play dates as often as I can. I came home and Paul had put Mary to bed but she had snuck in under our bed without him noticing. I got her back to bed and tickled her back. It was a rough night, Katie got up at midnight and 4:30 am to nurse and Mary got up at 1 am and 3 and 3:30. She got up again at 5 am but Paul had gotten up to do his morning routine so Mary took his spot in the bed and fell back to sleep. One of the times I was putting Mary back to bed she got a drink of water and said, "My cheeks is red! I need wadder." (Drinks water). "My cheeks is bedder!"
Thursday we went to the church first thing for the exercise class. Though I started getting us ready right away we still didn't get to the church until 9:25 am (it's supposed to start at 9 am). I was surprised to find that just April and ShaLay were at the church and the class hadn't started yet. Lindsay was coming but had to run back to her house to grab her big speaker for April, I guess April's was broken. April taught Zumba, which was okay. I think I like REFIT better. Mary got to play with Jack and Lydia and EverLee Gochenour, which was really fun for her. I'm always glad when she gets to play with friends. ShaLay told us at the activity the night before that she found out she is having another girl! (Her 4th daughter). While I was up nursing Katie in the night I started looking for baby girl names for her. I really enjoy that kind of thing and she said she didn't know what they wanted to name her. They like to have names with an L in them and they capitalize the L because ShaLay has a capital L in her name. She said she likes Paisley and Adalyn from the list. We'll see what they choose, the baby is due in July.
We got home a little after 11 am and the rest of the day was lowkey. I got Katie down for a nap and Mary and I cuddled and watched a movie together. I didn't need to exercise since I did that in the exercise class. I love the time that I can spend one-on-one with Mary. I feel guilty for the time she spends alone while I nurse Katie and put her to sleep.
Friday I got Mary in the bath and she wanted Katie to get in the water with her so I stripped Katie down and held her in a sitting position in the bath and she splashed around with Mary for a little bit, it was very cute and fun. Katie has had black/green greasy poops this week and has had a lot of discomfort in her tummy. I'm thinking the tofu teriyaki salad I have been having for lunch is unfamiliar to her and giving her these dark poops. After the bath I got Katie down for a nap and exercised. While I was exercising I got a text from Megan Barrette that they were cancelling our play date. I was disappointed because I want Mary to have time with friends and I lose all motivation to take her to the park when we aren't meeting anyone there. ShaLay was in Reno taking her kids to their wellness checks. I don't know if Megan cancelled because she only wants to get together when ShaLay is there or some other reason. She lives 20 minutes away and sometimes when it is just us Mary and Kynlee don't always play. Maybe Megan didn't think it was worth the risk that they would drive all this way for the girls to not even play together. I did end up playing with Mary in the backyard in the afternoon though, it was sunny and in the low 50s. That night Paul played basketball with Mary before bed. I love the time that they have together to play and read and bond.
Saturday was the first day that Paul had to work a Saturday as a regular work day with this new schedule. He came in to say goodbye to find me awake and I reminded him that Mary has dance class Saturday mornings. He got Mary up for me and then headed to work. Mary was happy to go to dance and Katie joined us for the first time. One of the parents brought a gas heater, which was amazing. It was freezing and the parents have to wait outside during the class because there is no room inside and they might need to parent (to help their kid use the bathroom or one time a kid fell and got a bloody nose). The same parents who brought the heater also brought donuts for the girls, it was so nice! Mary usually just eats the frosting but this time she ate the whole donut. I think she was hungry, she had only eaten a nutrigrain bar that morning. It probably also helped that we haven't had desserts since the new year. The day was normal after that. Mary watched a movie while I put Katie down for a nap. I came out and was still freezing from having to wait outside. I snuggled with Mary and watched a bit of her movie before making food for both of us. I cleaned up and did a Pilates video so I didn't have to leave Mary alone. It was a slow day and I was grateful Paul came home early-ish. He got home at 5 pm and played with Mary while I put Katie to bed.
I got up a few times with Katie in the night and Sunday was Stake Conference, which we had no plans to attend. I got to sleep in until almost 9, which was heavenly. Katie woke me up and I fed her. Paul and Mary were watching Peter Pan. It had snowed overnight, the first snow fall we've had since last March, I think. We all got bundled and went outside to play in the snow. I quickly went back inside to put Katie down for a nap. When Mary got too cold Paul brought her in and we did our weekly Sunday yoga. Later in the day I did some meal prep and Mary was ready to go out and play in the snow again. She got flushed in her cheeks that night so we gave her a warm bath before bed.  I hope she doesn't get sick.  Paul went with her and Ben facetimed me and showed me the dinner he made for his friends. He made a gluten free chicken coconut curry, it looked yummy. I love Indian food. He told me that he broke up with his girlfriend, Bailey. He was sad about it because he thought she was a really great girl but he just didn't think she was the one he was supposed to marry. He's getting ready to do an internship in DC this summer and he also didn't want to do a long distance relationship. After I talked to him I tried to put Katie down for a nap and Paul gave the sister missionaries the meal I made for them. Katie didn't fall asleep but she ate for a while and was happy again. We were hanging out on the couch watching a Tinker Bell movie when I got Katie to laugh for the first time! It kind of sounded like a cough but she was smiling. I called to Paul and he came over and Mary too. We all took turns tickling Katie's tummy, wanting to see her smile and hear her laugh. It was a very nice moment to have all four of us close and doing something happy together. I love my family so much, these little girls are my whole world and I am so blessed to be their mom.
